Port of Venice is located
in following geographical coordinates:
Latitude 45° 26' N
Longitude 12° 20' E
|
It's quite enough known
to everybody that Venice is positioned along the shores of Northern
Adriatic Sea acting as main port of the hinterland of the Po Valley. |
 |
|
Venice's lagoon is
naturally in communication with open-waters through three sea ways
which are: Lido Canal, Malamocco Canal and Chioggia Canal. |
|

|
Historically, Lido mouth has always been the main and sole canal for
entering Venice, while the canal of Chioggia is just in use for the
sole traffic bound to the same port.
Currently, Lido Canal is in use as entrance for sole cruise and
passengers vessels due to be berthed within the old town of Venice
only. |
|
Just in recent times,
by digging the questionable navigation artificial canal (the so called
"Petroleum Canal"), all cargo vessels are compelled to transit through
Malamocco Canal only, which is connecting the open sea directly
to the several industrial terminals of Porto Marghera. |
 |
|

|
Seven private terminals
with premises in Porto Marghera have been authorised to perform
loading and discharging operations for account of other import/export
companies which prefer to use installations open to the public use,
rather than to built up for their own one, which sometimes it
doesn't worth for those managing just occasional shipments.
There are finally some
very important enterprises that, owing to their large traffic, dispose
of their own berthing installations dedicated exclusively to calls of
vessels carrying cargoes coming from or destined to their own
factories. |
|
A unique public
controlled enterprise is authorised to manage all the traffic of
passengers vessels berthing in Venice old-town. |
